Sun-dappled Stroll- 24”x18” Oil on Linen Panel
The inspiration for this piece comes from Monet’s “Woman with a Parasol”, which actually features his wife as the subject. There is something very captivating about the sunny day scene that makes the viewer want to be there, enjoying the breeze. I’ve studying Monet’s style more than usual lately so I wanted to create another work leaning into that style. Here, I wanted an orange umbrella, which is the complementary color of blue, which nicely frames the umbrella. The dress is also blue, but not quite as chromatic as to not distract the viewer's eye too much from the focal point in the top half of the piece.
