Another artist of the impressionist period I’ve always enjoyed studying is Camille Pissarro, who was the only artist to be represented in all eight Paris impressionist exhibitions and was also a major influence on the post-impressionist masters. His influences can also hopefully be seen in this piece where I incorporated the strong color harmony and atmospheric perspective he always utilized so effectively. In this composition, the placement of thick impasto flower batches in the foreground help grab the viewer’s attention and then softer brushstrokes gently lead them away toward the trees and clouds in the background.
