There is something about the sound of moving water, whether that is a babbling brook or the sea, as in this scene, that relaxes the soul and sets the mood for contemplation. Here the lady was putting her thoughts down on paper but became too captivated by the environment to continue. Perhaps the viewers of this piece will do the same. Like the classic techniques of the impressionist masters, this piece comes close to blowing out the lights and places more emphasis and color in the shadows.
